The Kick-off Meeting of the “Reuse of Treated Urban Wastewater for Different Alternatives” Project, which is financed by the European Union and aims to enhance Türkiye’s alignment with EU Council Directive 91/271/EEC on the effective reuse of treated urban wastewater in various fields (such as agriculture, industry, and environmental applications), was held on 20 January 2026, hosted by the General Directorate of Water Management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The meeting was attended by Mr. Afire SEVER, Director General of Water Management of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry; Mr. Mahir ÖZCAN, Deputy Director General of Water Management; Ms. Elif TORCU ÖZDEN, Sector Manager at the Delegation of the European Union to Türkiye; Assoc. Prof. Dr. İsmail Raci BAYER, Head of the Project Implementation Department and IPA Director at the General Directorate for European Union and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change; Mr. Mehmet Yunus İNAN, Head of the Project Preparation and Monitoring Department; Mr. Menderes İŞCEN, Head of the Water and Soil Management Department of the General Directorate of Environmental Management; Contracting Expert Ms. Meltem YILMAZ; as well as representatives of the General Directorate for European Union and Foreign Relations, the General Directorate of Water Management, the General Directorate of Environmental Management, and officials from the contractor consultancy consortium.

Following the opening speeches, a detailed project presentation was delivered by the representatives of the consultant company. In addition, it was expressed that the project is expected to be implemented and completed in cooperation in line with the defined timetable and objectives, and it was emphasized that the project, which commenced implementation as of 25 December 2025 and has a total budget of EUR 2,947,200, aims to enhance Türkiye’s compliance with EU Council Directive 91/271/EEC regarding the effective reuse of treated urban wastewater in various fields such as agriculture, industry, and environmental applications.

The meeting concluded following the exchange of views and evaluations by the project stakeholders.
