The Kick off Meeting of the “Assessment of Climate Change Impacts on Lakes, Wetlands, Coastal Areas, and Rivers in Türkiye Project”was held on 18 November 2025 within our Ministry.

The project, for which the General Directorate of European Union and Foreign Relations of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change acts as the Contracting Authority and which is implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry / General Directorate of Water Management, aims to evaluate the impacts of climate change on Türkiye’s lakes, wetlands, coastal areas, and rivers and to develop adaptation strategies and nature-based solutions for these critical ecosystems.

Within the scope of the project, it is expected to achieve the following outputs:

  • Development of models to assess sea-level rise and climate change impacts by 2100 for Türkiye’s Aegean and Mediterranean coasts.
  • Construction of models in three pilot lakes, wetlands, or coastal areas.
  • Creation of adaptation strategies and nature-based solutions for these ecosystems.
  • Organization of workshops, training sessions, and awareness-raising activities to disseminate findings.
