To highlight and assess flood risks in the region and to support the implementation of the Flood Risk Assessment and Management Directive (2007/60/EC) in Türkiye through the preparation of the flood risk management plan for the Meriç-Ergene River Basin.

Specific Objectives of the Project:

• Contributing to the implementation of the Floods Directive (Preliminary Flood Risk Assessment), Flood Hazard Maps, Flood Risk Maps and Flood Risk Management Plan in the transboundary river basin
• Preparation of guidance documents on the Transboundary Flood Risk Management Plan
• Assessment of risk reducing measures and their communication to the public

Project Results:

Assessment of flood risk and risk reduction measures in the Meriç-Ergene River Basin and their communication to the public. Within this scope:

• Site visits for the Flood Hazard Maps studies are ongoing, and the related field works are continuing.
• The flood hazard mapping data required within the scope of the project have been prepared and collected in electronic format, together with digital maps and cross-sections of rivers and streams for the basin.
• The Strategic Environmental Assessment Scoping Report has been prepared, and approval was obtained from the General Directorate of Environmental Impact Assessment, Permit and Inspection on 9 January 2024.
• The project is continuing with modelling studies, and the relevant methodology will soon be prepared to be presented to the stakeholders.
• The Monthly Input/Output Data Report of the Meriç-Ergene Basin Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System (TATUS) has been prepared.
