ABOUT THE PROJECT Objective of the Project is:

to identify potential disaster risks, to utilise the findings for loss reduction, and to increase climate change adaptation capacity and stakeholder resilience by developing technical, financial and planning options in line with EU and international policies.

Project Results:

  • Result 1: Establishment of the necessary technical and human resources capacity within AFAD for identifying potential disasters and risks and adaptation capacity related to climate change-induced disasters (CCIDs)
  • Result 2: Increase in local capacity and public awareness in selected pilot regions for the preparation of local action plans to manage and adapt to climate change-induced disasters

Activities Completed within the Scope of the Project:

  • Preparation of an improved legal framework for effective management and adaptation activities related to climate change-induced disasters, and establishment of a Climate Change Unit within AFAD
  • Improvement of existing early warning systems, particularly for landslides
  • Update of the AFAD Strategic Action Plan
  • Identification of financial and technological requirements and development of tools to support AFAD in mitigating the impacts of climate change-induced disasters
  • Development of strategies for pilot provinces
  • Report on the environmental, economic and social impacts of past and future disasters caused by Climate Change
  • Preparation of local disaster risk action plans for pilot provinces
  • Applications to the EU Alignment, the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, and/or Resilient Cities initiatives
  • Raising increased public understanding and awareness of climate change risks and disasters, including the importance of adaptation measures
