| DURATION (MONHTS) | 36 Months |
| LOCATION | Southwestern Türkiye (Muğla and Antalya) |
| BUDGET OF THE PROJECT | 2,849,960.00 Euros |
| ABOUT THE PROJECT | Through this project, the aim is to establish and effectively manage an ecologically connected Marine Protected Areas (MPA) network with a view to restoring the integrity and connectivity of marine ecosystems along Türkiye’s southwestern coastline. Alongside measures to reduce the pressures of climate change on marine ecosystems, the project seeks to identify new MPAs and protect marine areas through the establishment of no-take zones, no-anchor zones and sensitive core areas.
Within the scope of the project, ecosystem-based fisheries management plans will be developed and marine habitats will be rehabilitated through the removal of abandoned fishing equipment. Whilst the implementation and enforcement capacity for the protection of threatened habitats and species along the Muğla–Antalya coastline is strengthened, work will be carried out towards the declaration of new protected areas. Through training programmes, awareness campaigns and stakeholder engagement events, the project aims to increase the participation of all stakeholders, including local communities, in marine conservation efforts and to support the sustainable management of Marine Protected Areas. |
