Pilot implementation area: Gediz Basin

To establish a monitoring methodology for the implementation of Nitrate Action Plans in nitrate vulnerable zones, in line with the EU Nitrates and Water Framework Directives

Specific Objectives of the Project:

• Preparation of Nitrate Action Plans developed for Nitrate Vulnerable Zones in compliance with the European Union Nitrates and Water Framework Directives, and their integration into the Nitrate Information System
• Increasing the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry’s central and provincial capacity to reduce the nitrate pollution in Nitrate Vulnerable Zones
• Raising awareness of local communities

Project Results:

• The monitoring methodology specific to Türkiye for the Nitrate Action Plans, integrated into NIBIS, has been established together with annual and four-year reporting templates.
• Enhancing the technical capacity of the central and provincial staff of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MoAF) in nitrate vulnerable zones (NVZs) for reducing nitrate pollution from agricultural activities, and for the implementation and monitoring of Nitrate Action Plans (NAPs).
• Raising awareness among local communities on agricultural nitrate pollution, in addition to the implementation and monitoring of NAPs.
