To strengthen Türkiye’s capacity for the preparation of River Basin Management Plans in accordance with the Water Framework Directive, which is stated as one of the closing benchmarks of Environment and Climate Change Chapter in EU Accession Negotiations.

Specific Objectives of the Project:

• Making progress on the fulfilment of the closing benchmark of the Environment and Climate Change Chapter
• Preparation of the legislation for strengthening the current institutional structure to apply the requirements of Basin Sectoral Water Allocation Plans and River Basin Management Plans
• Determination of environmental and health impacts of the implementation of environmental quality standards in Eastern Mediterranean Basin
• Improving institutional and public capacity

Project Results:

• The five key results expected to be achieved from the project are summarised below.
• Preparation of River Basin Management Plans in Six Basins to achieve “good water status” and to contribute to meeting the requirements of the Environment and Climate Change Chapter
• Preparation of Sectoral Water Allocation Plans in Six Basins to ensure that water demand is met in all water-related sectors
• Strengthening the existing institutional structure and legislation for the implementation of Sectoral Water Allocation Plans
• Improving institutional and local capacity
• Identification of environmental and health impacts of the implementation of Environmental Quality Standards in the Eastern Mediterranean Basin
