As part of the “Technical Assistance Mechanism to Support Post-Earthquake Recovery in the Municipal Infrastructure Sector”, implemented by the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change of the Republic of Turkey, a monitoring and site visit was conducted on 16 April 2026 with the General Directorate of GASKİ to the sites in Islahiye district for the Islahiye Water and Wastewater Project.
The site visits were attended by Mr Mehmet Yunus İNAN, Director of the Project Preparation and Monitoring Department at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change; Mr Mehmet YÜZBAŞIOĞLU, Director of the Wastewater Treatment Department at GASKİ; Ms Selda GÜNGÖR, Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Branch; Contract Specialist Cengiz ÖZCAN;
Monitoring and Evaluation Experts, representatives from the İLBANK Regional Directorate, and officials from the consulting and contracting firms.
As part of the programme, the delegation inspected the project sites in Islahiye district and met with the contractor firms, İLBANK representatives and technical consultants. A visit was also made to Islahiye Municipality, the final beneficiary. During the on-site meetings, the current progress, mobilisation process, technical and logistical challenges encountered, as well as risks of delays and proposed solutions were assessed.
As part of the visit to the employer organisation, the General Directorate of Gaziantep Water and Sewerage Administration (GASKİ), meetings were held with the participation of project stakeholders.
The meetings addressed the project’s overall progress, technical and administrative challenges, coordination processes, and financial matters.
On the second day of the visit, 17 April, a visit was made to the office of the Mayor of Gölbaşı Municipality in Adıyaman, the contracting authority, where information regarding the project was shared. Work was carried out to establish a roadmap for the more effective implementation of the ongoing project.
Aiming to contribute to post-earthquake infrastructure improvement works, the project is of critical importance in terms of strengthening the water and wastewater infrastructure of Gaziantep and Adıyaman. Officials stated that the site visits would give impetus to the project implementation process and enhance inter-institutional coordination.
