Kütahya Wastewater Treatment Plant Project

NAME OF THE PROGRAMME Environment Operational Programme (2007–2013)
START DATE 26/01/2016
END DATE 08/01/2019
BENEFICIARY(IES) Kütahya Municipality
PLACE Kütahya
BUDGET OF THE CONTRACT 16,800,292.69 Euros
ABOUT THE PROJECT The wastewater treatment plant, which was designed in 1987 and commissioned in 1992, was initially planned only for carbon removal. However,  it was renewed at the beginning of the 2000s, due to increasing pollution problems in the Porsuk Stream and the Porsuk Dam. With the revision carried out in 2002, the plant was converted into an advanced biological treatment system, and nitrogen and phosphorus removal were added to the process. Today, the plant operates with the activated sludge process and anaerobic sludge digestion methods, serving approximately 248,000 people and discharging the treated effluent into the Porsuk Stream. For the year 2030, the plant’s capacity is projected to exceed 97,705 m³/day, with an equivalent population of more than 358,000.

Features of the Wastewater Treatment Plant:

Capacity: 97,705 m³/day (according to the first stage for the year 2030)

Site Area of the Plant: 19,5 ha

Treatment Level: Advanced Biological Treatment (Carbon, Nitrogen, Phosphorus Removal)

Treatment Process: Activated Sludge Process

Sludge Stabilization Process: Anaerobic Sludge Digestion

Sludge Treatment Process: Sludge Dewatering (25% DS) and Solar Sludge Drying (70% DS)

Receiving Environment Porsuk Stream

Equivalent Population: 358,850 (2030) – 434,867 (2045)
