| ABOUT THE PROJECT | Overall Objective of the Project is:
to enhance the capacity for the implementation of the EU Regulation on Persistent Organic Pollutants (850/2004/EC) and the Soil Pollution Strategy, thereby protecting human health and the environment—particularly from the adverse effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and other harmful substances present in contaminated sites—and consequently improving the quality of life. Objective of the Project: Objective of this project is the elimination of pesticide stocks containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs); the remediation of sites contaminated with relevant POPs and chemical pollutants; the gradual phase‑out of PCBs in line with Türkiye’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention; the reduction of unintentional POP emissions in major industrial sectors; and the strengthening of institutional, regulatory and technical capacity within the framework of environmentally sound chemical management, with the overarching goal of protecting human health and the environment at both global and local levels.
