BUDGET OF THE PROJECT 2,030,000.00 Euros
ABOUT THE PROJECT Overall Objective of the Project is:

to enhance the capacity for the implementation of the EU Regulation on Persistent Organic Pollutants (850/2004/EC) and the Soil Pollution Strategy, thereby protecting human health and the environment—particularly from the adverse effects of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and other harmful substances present in contaminated sites—and consequently improving the quality of life.

Objective of the Project:

Objective of this project is the elimination of pesticide stocks containing Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs); the remediation of sites contaminated with relevant POPs and chemical pollutants; the gradual phase‑out of PCBs in line with Türkiye’s obligations under the Stockholm Convention; the reduction of unintentional POP emissions in major industrial sectors; and the strengthening of institutional, regulatory and technical capacity within the framework of environmentally sound chemical management, with the overarching goal of protecting human health and the environment at both global and local levels.

Project Results:

  • Training for personnel from different target groups working on the management of POPs/contaminated sites
  • Legal gap analysis / preparation of guidance documents / publications and drafting of regulations
  • Study visits
  • Establishment of the Helpdesk Navigator Software Programme
  • Updating of the CSIS Software
  • Identification and classification of sites contaminated with POPs in Türkiye
  • Prioritisation of POPs / sites contaminated with persistent toxic substances for remediation
  • Selection of two pilot sites among the priority contaminated areas
  • Preparation of technical specifications for the two pilot sites to be implemented
