BUDGET OF THE PROJECT 2,086,000.00 Euros
ABOUT THE PROJECT Overall Objective of the Project is:

to control Invasive Alien Species (IAS) in terrestrial areas and inland waters in accordance with EU Regulation 1143/2014, thereby ensuring the resilience of these ecosystems.

Specific Objective of the Project:

  • Establishing the legal basis for the control of invasive alien species in terrestrial areas and inland waters in Türkiye
  • Controlling the invasive species identified under the project
  • Strengthening the management capacity of relevant institutions and raising public awareness

Project Activities

Within the scope of the TERIAS activities, legal gaps on the subject were first identified and, based on the relevant European Union Regulation, a draft regulation was prepared. The consultation process with the relevant institutions regarding this draft is still ongoing. In addition, a national strategy and action plan on invasive alien species have been prepared. Furthermore, the legal basis for establishing a national advisory board has been drafted. These documents can be accessed via the project’s website.

Emergency Action Plans have been prepared for six target species identified under the project, and implementation and monitoring activities have been carried out in pilot areas with a budget of 1.5 million TL provided from the investment budget of the Directorate General.

Combating invasive alien species is not an issue that can be addressed solely by our Directorate General. It requires the participation of many institutions and organisations, and most importantly, the support of the public. Otherwise, success is not possible. Thanks to this project, distinguished academics, relevant public institutions and organisations have been brought together, while both the management capacity of our institutions and public awareness have been enhanced.
