| NAME OF THE CONTRACT | Technical Assistance for Development of End-of-Waste Concept in Türkiye |
| CONTRACT START DATE | 25/04/2023 |
| CONTRACT END DATE | Ongoing. The Final Report was submitted. |
| BUDGET OF THE CONTRACT | 1,191,601.00 Euros |
| ABOUT THE PROJECT | Within the scope of alignment with the European Union acquis, although substantial compliance with the Waste Framework Directive has been achieved through the Waste Management Regulation published in the Official Gazette dated 02.04.2015 and numbered 29314, the end-of-waste concept has not yet been harmonised with the national legislation. Within the scope of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) II Period, The Technical Assistance for the Development of the End-of-Waste Concept in Türkiye, supported under the Environment and Climate Action Sectoral Operational Programme, will build upon the compliance already achieved with the acquis and aims to develop and effectively implement end-of-waste criteria for certain waste streams in Türkiye, in line with the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) and the Directive (2018/851) amending Directive 2008/98/EC on waste, by strengthening technical and institutional capacity.
The end-of-waste approach aims to: Promote increased high-quality recycling and the use of waste materials as resources, to reduce the consumption of natural resources, and to decrease the amount of waste sent for disposal. Identify end-of-waste criteria in order to ensure environmental protection while, at the same time, facilitating and promoting recycling by reducing the consumption of natural resources and the amount of waste sent for disposal. Objective of the Project: The purpose of the project is to develop technical and institutional capacity for identification and effective implementation of end-of-waste criteria for specific waste streams in Türkiye in line with the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC) and the Directive (2018/851) amending Directive 2008/98/EC on waste. |
