The Closing Event of the “Enhancing Adaptation Action in Türkiye” Project was held on 3 October 2025.

Funded by the European Union and implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change of the Republic of Türkiye and UNDP Türkiye, the six-year project (October 2019 – October 2025) has been successfully completed.

The event began with opening remarks, followed by a presentation on the project’s key achievements. Panel sessions and closing discussions concluded the meeting.

Over the past six years, the project has made significant progress towards strengthening societal resilience through enhancing climate change adaptation at both sectoral and urban levels.

Key Objectives Achieved with the project

  • Strengthening societal resilience through enhanced climate change adaptation, particularly at sectoral and urban levels.
  • Developing improved decision-making tools for climate-resilient and sustainable development.
  • Advancing adaptation and resilience planning in urban areas.
  • Building institutional and technical capacity for climate change adaptation action.
  • Enhancing operational capacity for adaptation action through the Climate Change Adaptation Grant Programme

Outputs and Achievements with the project

  1. National-Level 
  • The National Climate Change Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan (2024–2030) has been prepared.
  • The Plan identifies 40 strategies and 129 actions across 11 sectors.
  • An implementation guide and financing strategy for the Plan have been completed.
  • A national Climate Portal has been developed.
  1. Local-Level 
  • Four pilot provinces were selected: Samsun, Sakarya, Muğla, and Konya.
  • Local Climate Change Adaptation Strategies and Action Plans (2025–2030) were developed and published for these pilot provinces.
  • Sectoral vulnerability and risk analyses were conducted, and urban climate finance strategies were prepared.
  1. Grant Programme and Capacity Building
  • The Climate Change Adaptation Grant Programme was implemented to enhance community resilience and protect natural resources.
  • A total of 29 projects and 77 beneficiaries received support under the Grant Programme.
  • Comprehensive capacity-building activities on climate change adaptation were completed.
  • 11 Training Modules were developed to support continued learning.

Throughout the six-year implementation period, the project organized awareness-raising activities and conferences in 20 cities, reaching over 11,000 people and supporting innovative initiatives that promote adaptation to climate change.
